Researching Companies!

BalletCompanies.Com (click on the link to be redirected)

This is one of my favorite websites! Here you can find information about companies from Armenia to Zimbabwe and back. Don't be misled by the name; the site does not only hold information on ballet companies, it also lists contemporary dance companies! Have a look and be amazed!

Networking

Don't forget to make use of your network! Your teachers, guest teachers, graduates, and last but not least musicians. Musicians often know lots of people in the business, both choreographers and dancers. And because they play for class they can tell you about the work ethic and atmosphere.....In other words talk to the people around you! There is always someone who knows someone who is a friend of a friends friend, who turns out to be the brother from another mother who is the hairdresser of the woman who knows someone who should be able to help you...

Interviews

Interviews can be a great way to obtain more information. Article 19 Interview Archive is an extensive database with interviews going years back! Have a look and find out what people like Lloyd, Bawren, Janet, Sharon and Hofesh have to say about the dance world!

YouTube and Vimeo
A great way to research what type of work a company does is by performing a search on YouTube.com and/on Vimeo.com.

  2. vimeo, site where professional companies post their videos. also get on twitter if you are starting out as a freelancer so people can follow you in a professional light. plus make sure that your facebook is clear and clean so there is no incriminating photos or statuses if you have added any professionals.

  3. Hey guys, if you have time and some money and want some inspiration get yourself to Madrid for the Madrid en Danza festival from 7-27 November. There will be loads of different companies performing and it could be a good way to research some companies by watching performances and taking class. Check out the website www.madrid.org/madridendanza/2011/index.html for the list of companies. To join company class it's best to email in advance, with cv and a picture. I definitely think that taking company classes is the best way to check out a company you're interested in. When you email make sure you suggest dates that you would like to come so that they can give you a specific answer.
Hope everyone is happy and healthy, please Facebook me if you make it to Madrid :) always nice to see a familiar face! Xo
