About Your Solo.....

Yes, your solo!

Sometimes you will be requested to send footage of you dancing. This can be the case when you are unable to attend an actual audition, and more and more, people select whom they want to invite to their workshop or audition from video.

It is therefore very important that you create a video of you dancing a solo!

Also:

At some auditions you have to perform a solo as part of the selection process. Now of course you learn solos in school, but remember that several of these have been around for a long time and some directors have seen them a few times already...

Besides, using them wouldn't show much creativity and initiative. I appreciate that not everyone likes to choreograph but if that is the case you could ask someone to make something for you.

Make sure that you use a recording device of excellent quality. The school should have a camera that you can loan, if you don't have one yourself. Please ask the office staff for more information.

So…Make a solo then put it on YouTube and/or Vimeo like the graduates below have done. One of them was actually approached to do some work just after posting their video on line...

  • About your costume....What feels good to wear may not always look great on video! When shooting make sure you have a couple of takes with different costumes so you can decide what looks best on screen when editing.

  1. (...)we had to do a solo of one minute i found out about that only a few days before the audition so didn't had time to make much if it would have been 2,5 minutes i would have so my advise is also not to only have 1 solo but have maybe a couple or one that you can easily adapt to different lengths.

i hope i helped someone with this and have fun auditioning.
